Knowing how to change a tire is an important skill for every driver to know. As your Porsche dealer, we’d like to tell you the easy steps to replace a damaged tire. Some Porsche models don’t have a spare, and in this case, you’ll have a can of tire sealant in the front compartment. This sealant will reinflate your tire and allow you to drive away immediately.
From Your Porsche Dealer: How To Change a Tire in 9 Easy Steps
Find a Safe Place
It’s important to have a space place to change your tire. Move the vehicle to an area that’s as flat as possible and out of the way of other moving vehicles. Switch on the emergency flashers to advise other drivers there’s a problem. If you have warning signs, position them behind the car for extra visibility.
Locate the Tools
You’ll need a lug wrench, a jack, and a spare tire. Your car manual will show you the location of these items. Once you’ve got them, it’s time to remove the damaged tire.
Loosen the Nuts
The lug nuts ensure the tire is securely in place. Use the lug wrench to loosen each lug nut in turn. You’ll probably need to apply force to turn them. Don’t remove the nuts: just loosen them enough so they can be turned by hand.
Jack Your Car
Certain points underneath your car are specially reinforced to allow you to jack your car without causing any damage. These points are illustrated in your car manual. Once you’ve positioned the jack, use it to lift your car high enough that the damaged wheel is just touching the surface.
Replace the Tire
Lift the damaged tire off the wheel hub and place it on one side. Position the spare on the wheel hub and rotate it until the holes in the tire are aligned with the holes in the wheel hub.
Secure the Tire
Screw each lug nut into the holes in the tire by hand until they’re secure. Once this is done, lower the jack and use the lug wrench to tighten each lug nut as securely as possible.
Stow the Gear
Put the lug wrench, jack, and damaged tire back in place, and you’re nearly ready to go.
Check Tire Pressure
If you have a tire pressure gauge, use it to check the tire is fully inflated. A spare tire can lose air naturally over time.
